Carantoña

History of Carantoña

Carantoña plant is a station with an open flow diversion channel passing through a dam, canal, load chamber, penstock, the plant and the pipes returning to the river.

As this is a run-of-the-river station, it depends exclusively on the water regime of the river itself.

Power plant facilities

  • Two double regulated Francis turbine with horizontal axes. The turbines have a twin design for a unitary flow of 4.3 m3/s and a head of 67.7 metres
  • The installed alternators have an apparent power of 3,333 KVA each for a cos ƒÓ of 0.75, which means that the active power of both generators is 2 x 2,500 KW
